Lesson observations
In the responses to the parent/carer questionnaires we received at the beginning of the year (see below), some of you said you’d like to know more about what went on in the Y6 classes. So we invited a couple of parents in to observe the lessons and report back for our new Upper Phase newsletter. Here’s the full text of the observations: parent lesson observations
Where is your child at & what are their next steps?
Many parents/carers were interested in the level descriptors we talked about in the open evenings in October. Links to the descriptions of levels (4b, 4a, etc.) are below. (4b is the national average at the end of year 6). They’re for teachers to use in deciding on the level your child is at currently and in deciding what it’s best to teach them next. You might find them useful when you’re working with your child - they’ll be aware of their target level & you could look up all the things they need to achieve to reach their target level. We do exactly that at school, making the descriptors clear to children orally in lessons; and there are the targets we include in our termly newsletter. If you’ve any questions about targets, levels or descriptors, please get in touch.

Parent’s questionnaire
We’ve taken on board the comments you made in the recent parent’s questionnaire. One of the ways we’ll be addressing some of the issues raised is through a phase (Y5 & Y6) newsletter that will be issued alongside the whole-school newsletter, each half-term. The newsletter will appear on the blog too, meaning you can download it automatically to your email via our RSS feed (see the icons at the bottom of the page). The newsletter will give you information on what’s happening in Y5 & Y6 over the coming half term; it will also explain the teaching and learning that goes on in the classrooms and have commentaries on our policies on matters such as bullying and discipline. These were issues you said you’d like us to look at. If you’ve any comments, please contact us directly or leave a comment below.

Reply: Yes you will - but we’re likely to be moving the content of the site to our new website in September; so all the stuff on this blog will be reorganised and we’ll have Y6 and Y5 areas of the website & maybe bits of the website designed by children! Very exciting. Whatever we do, we’ll have a link from this blog to the new stuff & we hope to keep up the comment posting - it’s been very popular.
Thank you for all your comments this year. Remember, never give out your email.
