Maths 

SB Set:  Calculate percentages of quantities.  Work on Magnetite website below & look on the Argos website to see what we’ll be working on next week 

JG Set: Change the mixed numbers intoimproper fractions and turn the improper fractions into mixed or whole numbers

English: Complete the sentences. Highlight the subordinate and main clause and then re-write the sentence in a different order, but ensure that it still makes sense.  The main clause is the most important bit, the subordinate clause is the less important bit.  Eg, Biting his fingers, Jon stared up the dark road.  The main clause is in red & the subordinate clause is in blue.

In Tuesday’s maths lesson, we covered fractions & percentages.  Use Mission Magnetite to remind yourself of the links between them.

Maths JG Set: Find the area and perimeters of the compound shapes. Remember that if there isn’t a size indicated then you will be able to find the length by looking at the opposite side of the rectangle.  

Maths SB Set: Position fractions on a number line.Make whole number from a variety of added fractions using NLVM fractions manipulative& represent as eg, ½+1/4+1/8+1/8=1 on paper (10 examples) 

Literacy: Use the internet to find facts about any celebrities. How can you make sure that these are facts and not opinion or fiction? Does the fact appear more than once on different websites? Is there any use of personal pronouns, (I think, we believe…). If there is then it will likely be opinion.

Make sure that you identify where the fact has come from; so show the website or the title and author of the book or article.

Maths JG Set: Solve the word problems by finding out the important data, deciding on which number function to use and calculate. You may want to ask your parents help with some of them. Also, convert the measurements for length and weight. 

Maths SB Set: Problem solving sheets; plus, try one of the L2 or L4 problem solving questions on the NZ maths site via the links page on the blog. 

Literacy: Read a chapter of a non-fiction book and summarise the information in each paragraph. Once you have done that can you categorise the information and change the structure of the chapter? What is the effect of moving the paragraphs around in the text? Can you improve the flow and style of the chapter?
