Year 6 Boys Football

Match Report

Tournament at Stocksbridge Junior School

Marlcliffe boys under 11’s football squad were entered into a Sheffield Tournament.  We were drawn in a very difficult group against Stocksbridge, Lound and Nethergreen.  The matches were also to be played away from home at Stocksbridge Junior School.

The behaviour of all the children representing our school was fantastic, and we were very proud of them all.

The results were as follows:

Stocksbridge  0 - 0  Marlcliffe

            Lound  0 - 1  Marlcliffe

  Nethergreen  1 - 0  Marlcliffe

The whole squad battled hard throughout the three matches.

During the first match against Stocksbridge there was a goal mouth scramble which ended in one of our team hitting the cross bar.  We were very unlucky not to score.  Winger, Luke, made some amazing runs and crosses into the box for striker James.

The game against Lound was a great display of moving and passing resulting in an amazing goal from Reece.  Nathan and Nat held off any attacks from the opposition, feeding the ball to mid-field.

Nethergreen managed to score a goal early on in the third game, and it was then very difficult for us to get back in the game as we were playing against a brick wall defence.  Nethergreen pulled everyone back, but our team never gave up.  Leon launched some incredible throws into the box.  William gave a great performance in mid-field.

Our goal keepers Joel and Ross both gave strong performances, pulling off saves and distributed the ball well, conceding only one goal throughout the three matches.

It was very difficult to choose the player of the tournament as the whole team played extremely well together.  There is one boy however who has not been with our school very long and has settled in extremely well.  He gave is all during the tournament, passing, dribbling and showed some awesome skill defending, and that is Nat - well done

All in all a team to be proud of, both on and off the field - well done to you all.
