Bye bye Y6 blog. Hello Y6 blog

We’re moving the Y6 blog to a more permanent page on the main school website.  We think having everything in one place will make it easier for users to navigate.

Science Thursdays and Homework

As we begin our SATs revision, we are making some changes to the class timetables.  The biggest change will be the introduction of Science Thursdays.

Every week we will be spending an entire morning dedicated to Science.  This will involve spliting into 3 smaller groups, containing pupils from both Y6RS and Y6 JL, who will each have 1 lesson taught Miss Laird, Mr Souter and Mr Brooks.

Break time will be moved so we have the yard to ourselves!

Each week, pupils will be given SAT’s style homework questions which will be due in on the following Monday.  It would be great if you could follow these sessions up with some linked work on SAM learning.

Online Revision Sites

The Y6’s have made a fantastic start to their independent learning using SAM learning and Education City.

Carla is our current SAM Learning Star of the Week with more than 14 hours logged.  She is closely followed by Grace and Nina.  Well done!

In addition to these sites, there is a brilliant new Science link on the main school website – definitely worth checking out.

Enjoy!

Maths homework due 27.1.09 (Y6JL set)

Miss Laird’s maths set has a set of word problems relating to multiplication and division.  The homework is due in on 27.1.09.

Also, remember to use Education City and SAM learning, you can find the links from the main Marlcliffe School website.  Enjoy!

VE Day celebrations

Our history topic this year is Britain Since World War II.  We have been studying the effects of the war on the personal and professional lives of different people.  We are planning a traditional VE day party on Thursday 29th January.  If possible, we would appreciate it if pupils could dress up as the characters they have created.

Y6 Trip to Weston Park Museum

As part of our history topic investigating Britain Since World War II, we will be visiting Weston Park Museum on Monday 9th February.

The trip will cost £3 to cover the cost of transport and entry, please return slips and money to the school by Monday 2nd February.

Y6 Trip – Meet the Lord Mayor and visit Sheffield Cathedral

As part of our Geography/History topic of Sheffield – Our City, we will be visiting the Town Hall on 25th November to meet the Lord Mayor.  We will then have a tour around the city before visiting Sheffield Cathedral.

We will have lunch in the city centre and so pupils will have to bring a packed lunch.  We will leave school at 9:30 and return at approximately 3:45.  The cost for the trip will be £0.80 to cover the cost of the tram fare.

We would welcome parents/carers who would like to join us.  If you are interested, please speak to your child’s teacher.

Literacy homework w/c 3/11/08

This week’s literacy homework is 2 pages focusing on curious spellings of plurals.  Can you remember what to do when you add an ’s’ to a word ending in ‘y’?

You have 1 week to hand it in.

Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet

As part of our Geography/History topic, we recently spent a day investiating the history of industry in Sheffield at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet.  We had a great time, learned a lot and, as always, our kids behaved wonderfully.
